PADI Master Scuba Diver: A Rank of Recognition

A person with extensive diving experience and training can become a PADI Master Scuba Diver. Less than 2% of divers achieve this rating, which means that those who do are part of an elite group of recreational divers.

What do you need to achieve this rank?

• Be at least 12 years old (between 12 and 14 years old, you receive a Junior MSD certification)
• Hold a PADI (Junior) Advanced Open Water Diver certification
• Hold a PADI (Junior) Rescue Diver certification
• Complete 5 PADI Specialty courses
• Have at least 50 logged dives
• Complete the application form

PADI Divemaster: A Professional Dive Guide

Divemasters assist dive instructors with training courses and can take responsibility for certain diving activities, making it a paid professional role. If you receive payment for your work as a diver, you are considered a professional diver.

Requirements to start the course:

• Be at least 18 years old
• Hold a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification
• Hold a PADI Rescue Diver certification
• Have completed EFR (Emergency First Response) training within the last 2 years
• Have a medical statement confirming you are fit to dive
• Have 40 logged dives at the beginning of the course
• Have 60 logged dives by the end of the course

What can you do after earning your PADI Divemaster certification?

• Supervise training and non-training dives
• Conduct dive briefings, assist with diver corrections, and directly supervise snorkelling courses
• Participate in Discover Scuba Diving programs and conduct additional dives
• Lead Discover Scuba Diving programs

What do you need to complete the course?

• Complete 8 theory sections and the corresponding knowledge reviews
• Pass the final exam
• Successfully complete in-water skills and exercises
